Gregory Murrill is a Baltimore native and grew up in the city's west side with his four siblings and parents. After graduating from Carver High School, Greg attended Morgan State University his freshman year before transferring to Temple University in Philadelphia, PA where he received a B.S. degree in civil engineering.
Gregory returned to the Baltimore-Washington area, living in Montgomery County and Washington, D.C. for a few years where he attended Howard University and received a M.S. degree in civil engineering. He joined the U.S. Department of Transportation where he enjoyed a long career. After retiring from federal service, Gregory joined JMT, one of the largest engineering firms in the mid-Atlantic region.
During his time as a resident in Baltimore's Bolton Hill neighborhood, Greg attended the Douglass Memorial Community Church. It was here where he first met many current members of The Open Church (TOC) including founding senior pastor, Dr. Brad Braxton. In 2016, Dr. Braxton officiated the marital union of Gregory to his wife Erica Jarrett-Murrill, Ph.D. Gregory and Erica currently reside in Beltsville, Maryland.
